Pizza Hut Unveils ‘Self-Driving Delivery Van’

If you need to transport large goods, the best van hire Middlesex has to offer is your best bet, whether or not you’ve driven a van before or not. While it will take a little getting used to, it doesn’t require any special license to drive a van up to 3,500 kilograms.

However, in the distant future, it could be that you’ll be renting a self-driving van from us. While self-driving technology exists already, it’s already proving controversial and is undergoing rigorous testing.

Despite this, Pizza Hut this week unveiled their very own ‘driverless’ self-driving pizza delivery van. According to The Standard, they have produced the concept in collaboration with manufacturer Toyota, however, it struck a chime with eagle-eyed fans of dystopian drama series Black Mirror on Netflix.

The new series, which was released at the start of the year, features an episode called Crocodile, in which a woman is interrogated over the death of a man who was hit by a driverless pizza delivery van.

Black Mirror’s official Twitter account chimed in on the revelations, tweeting: ‘We know how this goes..’ While Pizza Hut were keen to point out they were not the same fictional pizza company featured in the series, viewers thought there may have been a better time to Pizza Hut to announce the development.

Toyota have also been working with Uber and Amazon on developing an ‘e-palette’ of further self-driving models, which they hope to unveil at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
