How many years’ experience driving do I need to hire a vehicle?

If you are over 25 years old we require just 12months experience, anyone under 25 we need over 24months but please call the office to make sure we can get you accepted.

Is there an additional charge because I am under 24 years old?

All drivers under 25 must be pre-checked by our insurance company, we cannot offer the online booking system, and rates will be determined by clearance from our provider.

I don’t have a UK driving license

Not at all, but please understand we can only hire to non-UK licenses if you’re 25 years and above and held your license for 2 years or longer. Please note we will have to add an additional £400 onto your excess and we would recommend you purchase the Excess Protection. We will require driving license, passport, and proof of address to get our insurance approved.

What is your deposit policy?

At Knights Van Hire, we require you to pre-authorise your excess amount. So, if you take our excess protection, you greatly reduce the pre-authorise amount when you come to hire your vehicle. All deposits are held for 10days which is set by your bank, Metro bank hold deposits for 30days ( we recommend using another financial provider).

What do your prices include?

Prices quoted are inclusive of VAT, insurance and breakdown cover

What do I need to bring with me to hire a vehicle?

You will need to produce your driving licence and you will need to bring a unique code issued by the DVLA for us to obtain your licence details. We also require payment on a credit/debit card along with a second form of I.D, i.e. utility bill. passport

Can I hire a vehicle if I have points on my license?

Depending on the nature of offence and driver age, please call us for details.

What is the fuel policy?

We ask you to return the vehicle to us at the same level as when you collected, or you will be charged for any shortfall. We will not reimburse you for any excess fuel left in the vehicle.

Can I take your vehicle overseas?

We can arrange overseas cover, additional charges apply. Please note, we require at least 7 days notice.

Can I leave my car at your premises whilst I hire a vehicle?

Yes, we offer free parking to all our customers. Please call for more information.

Can I drop the vehicle back out of hours?

No, all vehicles need to be returned within our opening times. Late charges will apply to vehicles not returned on time.

Can I extend my rental?

Yes, but you must notify us prior to extension & payment taken at that time. Vehicles not returned within the specified time will be deemed to have been stolen. Appropriate recovery steps will be taken.

Do you hire trolleys?

No, we do not provide hire trolleys However, we would be happy to recommend local suppliers that do so.

Do you provide moving boxes?

No, we do not provide moving boxes however, we are happy to recommend local suppliers that do so.

Is the excess negotiable?

The excess protection we offer for £15 a day lowers the excess to £350 or £450 depending on the vehicle. If you struggle to hold £350 for the duration of the hire, please get in contact and we may be able to offer a payment structure that suits you. Call 01628 600 445.

Do you deliver vehicles?

We can deliver vehicles to customers, however this is strictly for local businesses only and subject to a 3mile distance from the Main Office, if you require this service please  contact us to discuss with one of our team on the phone

Do hire vehicles have unlimited mileage?

Mileage limits are set to accommodate the needs of most renters. Most rentals come with a set mileage of 100 miles per day but there can be exceptions depending on location, and length of rental. In order to determine your mileage limitations from a specific location you will need to contact the head office.

Do we hire trolleys?

No, we do not provide hire trolleys However, we would be happy to recommend local suppliers that do so.

Is there an age limit for van hire?

Our van hire services are not available to individuals over the ages of 69 years. This policy is in place due to insurance restrictions and regulations we must adhere to.

Can I pay for someone to drive the vehicle on my behalf?

All hires must be paid by the person driving the vehicle, if purchasing for a company we will need a directors guarantee that gives authorisation for the employee to drive on their behalf.
