How many years’ experience driving do I need to hire a vehicle?

If you are over 25 years old we require just 12months experience, anyone under 25 we need over 24months but please call the office to make sure we can get you accepted.

Is there an additional charge because I am under 24 years old?

No, however our insurer insists that the Excess must be increased by £400 , so we would advise buying the Excess Protection to lower the amount held in case of damage. You must also have two years’ experience driving minimum.

I don’t have a UK driving license

Not at all, but please understand we can only hire to non-UK licenses if you’re 25 years and above and held your license for 2 years or longer. Please note we will have to add an additional £400 onto your excess and we would recommend you purchase the Excess Protection.

What is your deposit policy?

At Knights Van Hire, we do not hold a deposit, we require you to pre-authorise your excess amount. So if you take our excess protection you greatly reduce the pre-authorise amount when you come to hire your vehicle.

What do your prices include?

Prices quoted are inclusive of VAT, insurance, breakdown cover and unlimited mileage.

What do I need to bring with me to hire a vehicle?

You will need to produce your driving licence and you will need to bring a unique code issued by the DVLA for us to obtain your licence details. We also require payment on a credit/debit card along with a second form of I.D, i.e. utility bill. passport

Can I hire a vehicle if I have points on my license?

Depending on the nature of offence and driver age, please call us for details.

What is the fuel policy?

We ask you to return the vehicle to us at the same level as when you collected, or you will be charged for any shortfall. We will not reimburse you for any excess fuel left in the vehicle.

Can I take your vehicle overseas?

We can arrange overseas cover, additional charges apply. Please note, we require at least 7 days notice.

Can I leave my car at your premises whilst I hire a vehicle?

Yes, we offer free parking to all our customers. Please call for more information.

Can I drop the vehicle back out of hours?

No, all vehicles need to be returned within our opening times. Late charges will apply to vehicles not returned on time.

Can I extend my rental?

Yes, but you must notify us prior to extension & payment taken at that time. Vehicles not returned within the specified time will be deemed to have been stolen. Appropriate recovery steps will be taken.

Do you hire trolleys?

Yes, we have trolleys for hire, ideal for moving heavy items such as washing machines etc. These are available for free to customers subject to availability.

Do you provide moving boxes?

Yes, we can provide moving boxes at a small fee, as well as sheets ideal for moving. Please ask at reception when you collect your van. All boxes are subject to availability and cost.

Is the excess negotiable?

The excess protection we offer for £15 a day lowers the excess to £350 or £450 depending on the vehicle. If you struggle to hold £350 for the duration of the hire, please get in contact and we may be able to offer a payment structure that suits you. Call 01628 600 445.

Do you deliver vehicles?

We can deliver vehicles to customers, however this is strictly for local businesses only and subject to a 3mile distance from the Main Office, if you require this service please  contact us to discuss with one of our team on the phone
