Drink-Driver Found Driving On Motorway With No Front Tires

A drink-driver was found to be six times the legal limit in the early hours of New Years Day on the M66 near Bury, Greater Manchester, after he was spotted “struggling to drive” without any tires on the front wheels of his car.

Police arrested the driver on the M66 southbound near Junction 2 at Heap Bridge. Traffic officers said it was no surprise to discover he was nearly six times over the drink driving limit after a breath test, finding he had 196mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, according to The Guardian. The legal limit is 35mg.

Greater Manchester Traffic Police said in a tweet: “Driver stopped by #traffic on the M66 SB prior to Jct 2 when they noticed a vehicle struggling to drive as it had NO front tyres!! No surprise when the driver was arrested after providing a roadside breath test of 196!! #fatal5 #nonefortheroad #XT”

With most drivers unaware that it is possible to be arrested for being ‘in charge of a vehicle while unfit through drink’, even if they are below the legal limit, it is more important to keep to a zero tolerance booze policy for all drivers.

The DR50 conviction is down to the opinion of the arresting officer to decide whether you’re fit or unfit to be behind the wheel.

If you use commercial van hire in Essex for your business, you’ll no doubt be vigilant when driving for work. Even the most careful drivers can be involved in an accident with drivers under the influence of drink and drugs.
